das Reißigerhaus in Belzig

House of birth of Carl Gottlieb Reißiger,

the "Reißigerhaus" at Belzig

As an artist Reißiger was very productive. Among many other pieces of music he composed eight operas and 300 choral

Although Reißiger was well known in his life time, his work was forgotten after his death. That is expecially the case for his church music, among them his magnificent Oratorium "David" . As Hofkappellmeister at Dresden, Reißiger´s contract only allowed him to perform his work at the Dresden Hofkappelle and nowhere else. As a consequence his work was never printed and distributed. Only recently, Thea Labes succeeded in editing a first print of "David". Other parts of his work are still waiting to be edited and published.
